Don't Let Weather Ruin your Next Event

You have spent a lot of time planning your event or activity, which only lasts a few hours, or a few days at most. Undesirable weather conditions can cause a reduction in lost revenue due to decreased attendance, concessions, and parking.

Both indoor and outdoor events can be affected by the weather, including:

Weddings Tradeshows and Conventions Sporting Events
Concerts Fairs or Festivals Film Production

Below is one example of how an event promoter used a weather risk management product to help offset the effect of weather on their bottom line:

A youth baseball tournament is held the first weekend in March every year. If it rains the night before or the morning of the tournament, the games must be postponed or cancelled causing tournament organizers to refund all or a part of the registration fee. Even though the teams get a refund, the tournament organizers are still responsible for paying for the fields, referees, percentage of the concessions, marketing, etc. Without the registration fee income, the tournament organizers lose money.

To prevent the tournament from losing money, organizers purchase a weather risk management product protecting them from rain. If it rains ½” at the local airport between 12:00pm the day before the tournament to 8:00am the day of the tournament, the organization will receive a onetime payout of $50,000. This payout helps the promoter cover expenses associated with the cancellation.
